SAIMAH announces healthcare and medicine areas of focus


SAIMAH, a US based society with exclusive focus on artificial intelligence in medicine and healthcare, is announcing its broad areas of focus for the society. The strategic plan of the society is composed of medicine and healthcare focus areas and within each area various tracks are available for specialists.

The broad focus areas are as follows:

Mental and Behavioral Health: This area of the society will focus on mental and behavioral health and will be composed of applications in mental health including but not limited to the application of affective systems in behavioral health.

Clinical Systems: This area of the society will focus on in patient and outpatient systems used for care delivery, care management, patient monitoring, and care coordination. Includes all patient monitoring systems etc. This area excludes genetic, interactive physician, and smart diagnostics.

Nonclinical Systems: This area of the society will focus on inpatient and outpatient systems used for administrative, operational support, financial, nonclinical data management, workflow management, procurement, wellness and lifestyle education, general health information, and other nonclinical healthcare data.

Imaging: This area of society will focus on artificial intelligence use in imaging. The coverage will include all types of imaging including nuclear and molecular imaging, MRI, CT, ultrasound, photoacoustic, and others.

Surgery: This area focuses on artificial intelligence technologies used in surgery.

Decision Support: This area focuses on advanced analysis where sophisticated analysis of clinical information (including but not limited to health records and claims information) is analyzed. Risk stratification, advanced population health management, etc. are examples of the focus area.

Smart Diagnostics: Data driven diagnostic systems that use machine intelligence, cognitive intelligence, or other types of artificial intelligence to study (physical, mental, or behavioral) symptoms and diagnose diseases. These diagnostic systems are not imaging based.

Smart Therapeutics : Data driven therapeutic systems that provide therapies, recommend therapies, and/or prescribe therapies.
Examples include automated physician.

Genetics: All systems related to human genome and genetics based therapeutics.

Molecular Medicine: All systems related to molecular medicine.

Basic Learning Systems: Supervised and basic unsupervised learning systems.

Advanced Learning Systems: Deep learning, multilayer system

Natural Language Processing: Includes semantic analysis

Patient Safety: Focuses on patient safety issues in artificial intelligence applications.

Knowledge Engineering: Knowledge representation, ontologies, taxonomies·

Data Management: Data governance, data quality, meta data management, and other data related issues·

Compliance: Focuses on regulatory compliance issues·

Other Technology: Includes games etc. for healthcare and medicine applications·

Multimodality Inference Engines: guides the development of artificial intelligence inference engines that receive data from multiple modalities and data is often unstructured and of different types·
